Success Stories:
In a drama that many children throughout the country are facing, The Santa Rosa Unified School District attempted to expel an eleven year old girl from their school system. This would have pushed her from school to the streets. Worse still, this young women’s history was not looked at holistically; instead the school system was allowing a few isolated incidents to define her future. She came from a family of eight children with a single mother who struggled to create a stable environment for them. Prior to her entrance to the Santa Rosa School District, She had been forced to move a number of times. Dominique, her mother, had repeatedly requested special counseling for her daughter, but did not receive the help she persistently sought. This background was something that Dominique and Education Not Incarceration brought to the School board at her expulsion hearing and they took our recommendation to not expel her from the Santa Rosa School District.
